If you’ve been wondering what happens after a brilliant webinar — well, this post is about exactly that. What began last May as our lively online discussion “Internazionalizzazione ed EMI in Italia: prospettive critiche” has now sailed (quite literally) into Venice!

We’re thrilled to announce BALEAP EMI SIG’s second in-person collaboration this autumn — following the Krakow EMI Conference in September — with a brand new event on 10 November 2025 at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Università Ca' Foscari Venezia): “Glocal Perspectives on EMI Students: Italy and Beyond.”

This conference — organised and hosted by Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, in collaboration with BALEAP EMI SIG, and with the valued partnership of LaDiLS and ICLHE — will dive into how students experience English-Medium Instruction through a glocal lens — that beautiful crossroads where local realities and global currents meet (often over an espresso).

We’ll hear from voices stretching from St Andrews to the Emirates, from Padova to Turku, from Torino to Verona — with contributions by Sarah Hopkyns PhD, SFHEA, Kay Gallagher, Stefania Cicillini, Katherine Ackerley, Fiona Clare Dalziel, Anna Dillon, Geraldine Chell, Elena Borsetto , Marcella Menegale, and Olivia Mair. Together, they’ll explore how EMI students navigate language, learning, and life across global and local dimensions.

The conference program also includes a roundtable session with EMI students, offering a platform for them to share their voices.
